What’s New with PDX Next (Updated Feb. 7)

Something to Smile about in February

Over the last 18 months, we’ve ticked off quite a few items on our to-do list at the airport. Expanding Concourse E: Check. Opening Concourse B and a Rental Car Center? Done! In 2022, we’re embarking on the really big stuff: Giving the main terminal a striking new roof. Check out the timeline of what this year will look like for PDX…and you!

New Concessions Arrive at PDX

Over on Concourse D, InMotion is now open. This location carries lots of Apple products, so it’s the perfect place to pick up Air Pods and chargers.

The Market‘s new location on Concourse C will stay up for the next two years until the weather wall is removed in 2024. Also on Concourse C, the Corner Store by Lardo is open in the former Kenny & Zukes spot. They’ve got a great grab-and-go selection, along with their delicious menu items.

One more exciting addition for our travelers and a first for PDX: The sensory room is open on Concourse D. You’ve likely heard about the room already – you may have even taken KultureCity’s sensory inclusive certification training. The space is geared toward visitors with cognitive or sensory processing challenges and features a mobile sensory station, comfortable seating options, tactile art and a calming, comfortable atmosphere.

You can look forward to more exciting concessions arriving in February and March: Watch for Starbucks, Stumptown and aviation-themed bar Juliett on Concourse E, as well as the Tillamook play area over on Concourse D.

Construction Impacts to Expect

For your safety, do not enter construction areas. To avoid serious injury, never cross a construction rope, barricade or fence to enter a construction site. We don’t want you to get hurt!

To help you plan for what’s ahead, we’re listing construction impacts in order by date. These updates are posted once a month, but information is constantly evolving – you’re encouraged to check back periodically to see what’s new, noted in red.

Bag Road

If you drive bag road often, you’ve likely noticed the lane closure. Make up units seven, eight and nine will be accessible from the south only. This is due to mega column nine reducing the available roadway to one lane of traffic, north-bound only. Flaggers will be in place to assist with this change.

Ticket Lobby

Until mid-March, there will be overnight welding work happening overhead in the ticket lobby. During the day, you’ll see some prep work for the nighttime welding.

Baggage Claim

The week of February 14, baggage carousel 4 will reopen. Baggage claim 10 is closed for the next few months, coinciding with a few projects including mega column work.

Main Terminal Demolition Impacts

As construction gets underway in the former Clocktower Plaza area, you can expect to hear loud noises and experience vibration from time to time, especially in the ticket lobby and around the TSA checkpoints. The sound impacts will be more noticeable in the coming months, beginning in March.

We know this can be challenging to work around, and the safety of employees and passengers is our priority. We’ll keep you informed about what to expect on the PDX People website and our weekly newsletter. Subscribe now if you haven’t already.

Hellloooo 2022! Our Most Read Stories from the Past Year

It’s time to say goodbye to 2021, a year full of so many highs and lows. At the airport, we kept going with a brilliant team of construction workers, architects and landowners to make PDX even more, well, PDX. That means creating healthy spaces optimized for sustainability, earthquake resilience and your wellbeing. Along the way, we made room for new artists that celebrate the diversity of our region.

Here’s a look back at our most-read stories in 2021 and the work we did to make the airport we love even better. There’s a lot to look forward to in 2022 when we raise a new roof over PDX, and we can’t wait to keep showing you all the magical stuff happening behind the scenes.
