New Waste Areas Put Trash in its Place

It’s time to take out the trash…just make sure you head the right spot.

On Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7 a.m., the current waste areas will close and all garbage and recycling will be directed to two new destinations – one on each side of the airport. The good news? This means access to trash and recycling will be more convenient than ever since we’re doubling number of drop-off locations.

Where do I go?

The north waste areas are located outside the airport near Gate E1 and inside the airport under Gate D2 (D1044).

The south waste areas are located outside the airport near Gate C1 and inside the airport by the freight elevator to the Concourse C food court (C1156).

When accessing the outside locations, please follow the striped pedestrian walkways for safety and be aware of nearby roadways and vehicles. Keep the new paths in mind as construction zones will expand in December and these will remain your safest and most direct route.

In the images below, you’ll see the approximate locations of the north and south waste areas (green) and the pedestrian paths (dashed lines).

What’s at each location?

It’s important to know that different locations accept different waste and recycling items.

For most trash and recycling items, you’ll head to the outside locations (E1 and C1), which is where you’ll find our waste compactors. Bring the following items to the outside locations:

  • Garbage
  • Mixed recycling and cardboard
  • Glass
  • Food waste
  • Buckets
  • Wash area

For more specialized recycling, you’ll head to the inside locations (C1156 and D1044). Bring the following items to the inside locations:

  • Plastic film
  • Styrofoam
  • Packaging peanuts
  • Light tubes
  • Batteries
  • Rigid plastics
