Meet the Interns: Kevin Roberti on Electrical Engineering, Construction and Cinema

Kevin Roberti is fascinated by a number of disciplines in the field of electrical engineering. Luckily, this makes him the perfect fit for the Port’s engineering internship, which has him working on a range of diverse projects.

As the electrical engineering intern, Kevin works with the safety and delivery teams, and engages with a multitude of disciplines: power, telecommunications, controls and more. He also has the opportunity to participate in team meetings and ask questions, touching base with mechanical, plumbing and construction, as well as the customer service and business side of projects.

Since beginning his year-long commitment at the Port, many of his interests have been realized and he’s had several new responsibilities to tuck neatly into his resumé. These include gathering and updating information in the field; assisting in reviewing the drawings and schematics submitted for projects to make sure there are no errors with the desired layout, placement or conventions; checking maintainables — an ongoing project to keep one-line diagrams, locations of equipment and drawings up-to-date and current, especially important when different projects are being juggled; and creating plans and specifications for construction projects.

“While I’ve enjoyed many opportunities through my internship, my favorite aspect is being involved in projects and having a hand in some of their designs,” Kevin said. Currently, he’s working on the Distributed Antennae System project, finding suitable power locations.

Kevin is a media fan, playing games and catching movies in his time away from work. Two films tie as his personal favorites: Saving Private Ryan and Forrest GumpRelaxation also includes hanging out with some of his friends.

As far as what makes him not what you’d expect? Said Kevin, “I can name all the U.S. presidents in order.” A mind with that kind of retention is a strong asset to have on this year’s team of interns.
