Attention All PDX Badgeholders!

You may have heard that there are some new rules that apply to everyone with an airport badge. Here’s what you need to know about escorting policies and other new badging requirements.

The new escorting policy must be reviewed and acknowledged by all PDX badgeholders.

We made some new rules for escorting at PDX – more on that below – and every PDX badgeholder needs to read and confirm acknowledgment of the policy by Tuesday, July 7. If you miss the due date, your badge will be suspended until your policy acknowledgment is signed.

Your PDX security badge is required to work at the airport.

It’s as simple as that: If you show up without your PDX badge, or if you have not yet been issued one, you can’t be escorted to your job…and you won’t be working that day.

You need an ‘E’ icon on your badge to be an escort.

If your company has authorized you as an escort and you’ve signed the policy acknowledgment above, you can get a new PDX badge with the ‘E’ icon starting on Wednesday, July 8. Escorting must be for legitimate business purposes only and those under escort cannot be carrying prohibited items.

Designated escorts must follow four new rules.

1. Escorting will require a form and confirmation number. Before escorting, ‘E’ icon badgeholders must register their escort using a web-based form and receive a confirmation number via email. When challenged, escorts will be required to present this confirmation number.

2. You can only escort three people at a time. Additionally, ‘E’ icon badgeholders must stay within 10 feet of the people they are escorting and be within sight and sound.

3. The three-person limit also applies to escorting vehicles. ‘E’ icon badgeholders may escort up to three vehicles and three people in total. Vehicles under escort do not need to be within ten feet, but must always be within sight.

4. Escorting within the sterile and secured areas is only allowed through four points: Midfield checkpoints, TSA screening checkpoints, terminal door T2450 (adjacent to D/E security checkpoint) and terminal Door T2061 (adjacent to B/C exit lane). Escorting in the Airfield Operations Areas (AOA) will be allowed through any gate or building.

Ready for Your New ‘E’ Icon Badge?

If your company granted you permission to escort and you signed the policy acknowledgment, you can head to the PDX Security Badging Office for your new badge starting Wednesday, July 8.

In order to accommodate employees needing new ‘E’ icon badges, they’ve temporarily expanded office hours:

• Monday, July 13 – 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Friday, July 17 – 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturday, July 18 – 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
