Estamos actualizando el plan maestro del Aeropuerto de Hillsboro y buscando nuevas formas de obtener opiniones de nuestros vecinos.
Por ese motivo organizamos la “Noche de Tamales” en colaboración con el Centro Cultural del Condado de Washington.
Aproximadamente 80 de nuestros vecinos nos acompañaron al evento del pasado diciembre en Cornelius, el cual se llevó al cabo completamente en español. Fue un placer tener la oportunidad de escuchar a nuestros vecinos mientras disfrutábamos de unos deliciosos tamales, preparados en la cocina del centro comunitario.
Esto es lo que aprendimos…
- Nuestros vecinos mostraron interés en la amplia variedad de actividades del Aeropuerto de Hillsboro y preguntaron si alguna vez se ofrecerían servicios comerciales.
- Muchos vecinos sugirieron que se expanda el uso del aeropuerto para la comunidad, por ejemplo, agregando una estación de observación de aeronaves, restaurante, senderos alrededor del perímetro, y obras de arte en frente del aeropuerto.
- Algunos vecinos manifestaron inquietudes acerca de la estética del aeropuerto, el cual está rodeado por una cerca que resulta poco amigable, y sugirieron incluir más jardines con colores más brillantes y algunas obras de arte.
- Los asistentes también demostraron interés por las rutas disponibles en el Aeropuerto Internacional de Portland.
- La “Noche de Tamales” fue una manera excelente de combinar comida, música y familias en un mismo evento.

Five Things We Learned at Tamale Night
We’re updating the master plan for Hillsboro Airport and reaching out in new ways to get your views.
That’s why we teamed up with Centro Cultural in Washington County to host Tamale Night.
About 80 of our neighbors joined us in Cornelius for the December event—conducted entirely in Spanish. We loved the chance to hear from our neighbors while enjoying some delicious tamales prepared in the kitchen of the community center.
Here’s what we learned…
- Neighbors were interested in the wide range of activities at Hillsboro Airport, and if it would ever offer commercial service.
- Many suggested expanding community use of the airport such as adding an aircraft viewing station, restaurant, trails around the perimeter, and art in front of the airport.
- Some were concerned about the aesthetics of the airport, surrounded by fencing that looks unwelcoming, and suggested more landscaping, brighter colors, and some art.
- Attendees were also interested in routes available at Portland International Airport.
- Tamale night was a great way to combine food, music and families in an event.
